Can you tell us a bit about Schoolhouse?
Founded in 2003, Schoolhouse is a lighting and lifestyle goods company dedicated to the preservation of American manufacturing, thoughtful living, and purposeful design. We have an innate affection for pieces with a past and believe that something worth owning now is worth owning forever. Here at Schoolhouse, we believe in the enduring relationship and rich heritage of American craft and mass production. From iconic lighting to one-of-a-kind homewares, we’re proud that many of our products are designed, assembled, and shipped within the walls of our Portland factory.

What do your customers love most about what you do?
Overall, our customers love the craftsmanship that goes into each of our designs. With a dedication to producing modern heirlooms, we craft pieces that are built to stand the last, and timeless enough to be passed down for generations.

What's your favorite Falcon product and why?
Our staple of the summer has to be the Enamelware Pitcher! With a tall and slender profile, it’s the ideal choice for ice water by the bed, homemade lemonade on a hot summer day, or a vibrant bouquet of garden fresh flowers.

Is there a specific dish that you might make at Schoolhouse using any of our Falcon products?
We’ve all been loving the Enamelware Deep Plates for serving up fresh salads, dishing up our favorite pasta, and enjoying a slice of pie à la mode. It’s also a great dish to use for baking a nice fruit crisp for two!

What does Summer hold for Schoolhouse?
So many exciting things! We’ve just released a new collection full of exciting new (and updated) products that we think our customers will love.

What do you love most about Portland this time of year?

Portland is such a beautiful city year round, but summer is when it really comes alive. From biking the many gorgeous trails, to strolling through the Rose Garden and lounging in our abundance of vibrant parks, there’s so much beauty to experience in such a short amount of time. There’s nothing quite like a Portland summer and it makes the gloom of winter and spring well worth the wait!
Are there any local companies you'd like to shout about? Where do you and the team usually eat, drink, and source ingredients in your local area?
Living in a city brimming with an abundance of talented chefs, winemakers, brewers, farmers, and bartenders definitely has its perks! That said, choosing a favorite spot to grab a quick bite or drink can be a difficult task. Right now, we’re loving Electrica Coffee for a refreshing cold brew, Sweedeedee for brunch, and Sugarpine Drive-In if you want to get out of the city for a bit without going too far.
As for sourcing ingredients, there’s an abundance of passionate farmers dedicated to providing fresh, locally sourced produce to our communities. With an abundance of farmer’s markets happening every week, there’s always an opportunity to find the best produce Oregon has to offer. We especially love venturing out to Sauvie Island to do some berry picking before taking a dip in the river!
