We recently caught up with the wonderful team at Jack Thompson Store in Cowes, who were celebrating their second birthday in style during the world-famous Cowes Week this August. Since opening the doors to their beautifully restored 1800s butcher’s shop, the store has become a true destination for locals and visitors alike - a place full of character, creativity, and coastal charm.
INSPIRED ISLAND LIVING
We are thrilled to welcome you back to our journal space. Jack Thompson Store turned two this summer. What have been some of the most memorable moments?
We were delighted to celebrate our 2nd birthday during Cowes Week, August 2025 - this event is one of the oldest and most respected sailing regattas in the world and attracted thousands of visitors to the High Street so it was a very busy birthday week for us!
It's been a brilliant two years since we first opened our store, we loved breathing life back into a derelict 1800's butcher's shop and welcoming customers through the door. There have been so many highlights for us, the Isle of Wight attracts international visitors and we have loved meeting customers from around the globe and knowing our products are now being used at homes as far as Sydney Australia!
We value the developing relationships with our wonderful suppliers, both at a local and national level. We were thrilled to welcome in our store and work with inspiring business women such as Chantal Coady OBE (founder of Rococo Chocolates) and Cath Kidston MBE who has recently launched a new brand 'C Atherley'.
What are you looking forward to this Autumn/Winter?
We are looking forward to launching our exclusive blend gin this autumn, traditionally made locally using fresh botanicals, our gin 'The Islander' has been created in a boutique distillery and already won an award! We are continuing to develop the choices with our bespoke hampers, as we have such interest in these local and unique gift options - with one hamper recently purchased for Robert Downey Jnr!
In October we are sponsoring the best selling author of 'Chocolat' Joanne Harris OBE who is appearing at the Isle of Wight Literary Festival, there is so much creativity on the island, this event is a highlight of the year with thousands of readers visiting to meet their favorite author.
What is the best part about being in Cowes in the Autumn?
Cowes is special in autumn, with milder weather and the tourist season ending, the waterfront has less traffic so the calm coastline is an ideal time for quiet walks along the seafront.
How has Falcon Enamelware shaped the business and grown with it over the years?
Falcon has been a popular brand since the day we opened, our customer demographic varies, and Falcon products appeal to our wide audience in different ways. There has been a lot of excitement around the new colours recently launched, so it's great our regular customers get to experience something new when they return to the store. The island benefits from a micro-climate so al-fresco dining is popular, whether it's lunch in the garden or an aperitif by the sea Falcon Enamelware is perfect for outdoor dining as not only does it look great, it is versatile and resilient.
What is your customer's favourite product?
Many of our customers appreciate life by sea, whether it's sailing on a boat or relaxing in a beach hut, the jugs and tumblers are most popular as they are so versatile whether you are enjoying Pimms in the summer or hot chocolate in the autumn, we know they are perfect for everyday drinking. We also sell many faux flowers in our store, so the jugs and also utensil pots make perfect vases for the casual yet classic floral look.
