After meeting in Greece three years ago, Ashley and Eloise set their sights on a life at sea, purchasing a 48ft sailboat with the ambition to explore the world. Through their YouTube channel, Sailing Sea Gypsy, they document their transition from first-time sailors to full-time cruisers, offering a practical glimpse into their adventure. In our conversation, they reflect on the rewards of their lifestyle and how Falcon products have become a vital part of their journey.
FALCON ABOARD SEA GYPSY
Can you introduce us to what you do and who you are?
Hi, we are Ashley and Eloise, and after meeting in Greece three years ago we quickly realised our shared interest in marine life combined with a passion for travel. One thing led to another, and before we knew it, we had purchased a 48ft sailboat, with probably not enough experience… but enough ambition to make sure our dream of travelling the world became a reality. We are documenting our journey on YouTube (sailing sea gypsy) from first-time sailors to full-time cruisers! We also hope our channel can inspire and support both individuals and ecosystems in the places we visit in the future.
Sailing is challenging yet rewarding. What makes the hard work worth it for you?
The hard work is worth it for the slow, intentional way of life, the friendships we build along the way, and the incredible sense of freedom that comes with sailing. Being able to live in the moment, connect with likeminded people, and explore the world at our own pace makes every challenge worthwhile.
Where is your favourite secluded spot in your local waters?
Piel Island in Morecombe Bay. Although it is only a short sail from our marina, it always makes for a good adventure. For Ashley, it brings back fond memories of growing up, visiting, and exploring on the island. It’s always been a peaceful escape, and every time we go back, it feels like a trip down memory lane.
Why is Falcon so good for boatlife?
Falcon is perfect for boatlife because it's built to last, and durability is key for our adventures at sea. As we seek high-quality products for our travels, we really love the style of Falcon and were impressed by the enamelware, which is porcelain fused onto heavy-gauge steel. This construction makes it incredibly sturdy, essential for life on a boat where the sea state often sends things flying around! Regular crockery wouldn't survive, and we’re not fans of plastic due to its environmental impact. Sustainability is important to us, and we believe Falcon products will stand the test of time, accompanying us on countless adventures around the world!
What is your favourite Falcon product and why?
We've both developed a fondness for the Falcon mugs—Ashley’s favourite is the red, and mine is the green. We love how their size is deceiving, and with our shared love for coffee, they’ve quickly become the most-used items on the boat!
Looking forward to next year, what are your plans?
We are currently faced with the daunting reality of leaving our full time jobs and living aboard full time. Another 4-5 months of hard graft in the boat yard should see us ready to cross the Bay of Biscay and hopefully find ourselves in warmer climates! Our goal is to set off by July or August, giving us the tail end of the cruising season to explore the Portuguese coast before (but not yet decided) wintering in Gibraltar.
