BAKING WITH THE KIDS THIS SUMMER

Enjoy this simple recipe for basic bread from Angela at @poppie_prints this Summer. An essential starter for any beginner breadmakers, kids and adults alike. It uses just five ingredients, and you can make it with granary, wholemeal or white flour.

Show the kids how to enjoy making your own dough, how to crack the kneading process and choose whether to make a loaf or buns to last the week.


BASIC BREAD

PREPERATION TIME:
1 HOUR 20 MINUTES

COOKING TIME:
30 MINUTES


INGREDIENTS:

•​​ 4 tablespoons yeast
•​​ 1/2 cup vegetable oil
•​​ 9-10 cups flour
•​​ 2 tablespoons sugar
•​​ 1 tsp salt

Measure the yeast out in a bowl with 1 cup warm water. Let rise until doubled in size. This usually takes about 10 minutes.

Meanwhile mix the vegetable oil and 3 cups slightly warm water in a 2nd bowl.

In a 3rd bowl mix the flour, sugar and salt.

Once the yeast and water has risen mix all three bowls together and let rest for 20 minutes.

Then knead until the bread is smooth and well mixed.

Cover and let rise until close to double in size. Usually about 40 minutes to an hour.

Punch down and shape into loaves or buns and cover again and let rise an hour or until they have reached desired size.

Bake at 375 degree F for 30-35 minutes for loaves and less for buns.
